Updates and Needs at DCRC in response to Covid-19

DCRC Executive Director, Kent Wallace-Meggs states, “The health, safety, and well-being of those we serve at Durham Crisis Response Center is our number one priority.  We have been taking guidance from our partners at local hospitals, the Department of Public Health, Centers for Disease Control, and local government to achieve the most effective way to continue to facilitate our services for our community.  We continue to operate our 24-hour help line. We are here for you now and will continue to be here for those that need our services.”

The shelter remains open but needs cleaning supplies, toilet paper, sanitizer, and food.  Anything it takes to operate your home, we require at the shelter.   Donations can be dropped off at the main office located at 206 North Dillard Street; please call the help line in advance to get instructions for your drop off.

Our penniesforCHANGE, Thrift Store now has a shop online web site at http://www.penniesforchange.us. Customers may order on-line and pick up their purchases by drive up Friday and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  penniesforCHANGE is not accepting donations at this time.

Beginning in 2006, the Woodcroft Women’s Club has been collecting donations for DCRC. The shelter provides a safe place for women and children of domestic or sexual violence. The DCRC shelter houses over two hundred women and children every year, requiring many items to keep the household running. DCRC relies on gifts from the community to make stays at the shelter as comfortable as possible.

New and gently used household items are always needed for the home including:

  • Domestics (sheets, blankets, towels, kitchen items)
  • Small Kitchen Appliances (coffee pots, blenders, toasters)
  • Paper Products (paper towels, napkins, toilet paper)
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Toiletries
  • Baby Items
  • Clothing for Women and Children
